English is the official language of Ghana. Besides English, a number of languages and dialects are spoken. Eight million people speak Akan or Twi, the most important African languages. English and Twi are often mixed in daily conversation.

At Notre Dame Senior Secondary School in Sunyani classes are held in English. Many students speak Twi as a mother tongue and English as a second language. Like most people in Ghana they speak several languages.
