Approximately 550 girls and young women aged between 13 and 24 years (as of 2007) attend Notre Dame Senior Secondary School. Most of the students come from Sunyani and the Brong Ahafo region. But there are also students from other parts of Ghana, some coming from as far away as Accra, the capital of Ghana, a seven-hour drive from Sunyani. There is a long waiting list for admission to the school. The girls seek admission to Notre Dame Senior Secondary School, well aware of the importance of higher education for their future. They are committed to playing an active part in the school community, in both class and extra-curricular activities. Senior secondary education equips them with the tools they need for embarking on a profession which will allow them to support themselves and their families later on. Some of the students go on to the Polytechnic for Marketing and Business Management; others become teachers, nurses or secretaries. Their gratitude to the school and to the School Sisters of Notre Dame in particular is expressed in numerous very moving thank-you letters to the German sister school. |
